DeMar DeRozan Is Opting-In for Next Season
Two things we know, DeMar DeRozan will be paid $27.7 million next season, and he's flattered to hear his hometown Los Angeles Lakers are interested in him. News has dropped Monday that DeRozan has gone ahead and opted in for his player option for next season, in a year he could end up starting for a team not named the San Antonio Spurs.

DeRozan was recently in the news, as the Lakers apparently have some interest in trading Kyle Kuzma for DeRozan, which would set up the Lakers to run it back next season with another elite scorer on their team.
For the Spurs, they appear to be headed for a rebuild, so there's certainly some warrant to the trade rumors, as the team has been linked to moving several of their veterans.
DeRozan would have been one of the best free agents on the market, but given the limited number of teams with cap space, it appears to be a smart move to wait until next offseason to cash in.
For now, DeRozan is a Spur, but with the trade winds swirling, that could change in the blink of an eye.
