BREAKING: Anthony Davis Signs Massive Five-Year Extension with the Lakers
Just when every NBA insider was thinking Anthony Davis would wait and see what Giannis Antetokounmpo was going to do before the December 21st super-max deadline, the Lakers power forward signs a massive extension to stay long-term in Los Angeles.
Davis could have gone the short-term route and enter FA in 2022 when he would have 10 years of service. He chose the option (and smart) of $190M in guaranteed money. He is young enough to get another crack of the FA apple in 2024. https://t.co/Fipf1xDwNm

The deal includes a early termination option for Davis before the 2024-25 season. Davis was considering many different options and his reps and the Lakers went back and forth on short and long-term options. This deal for both sides made the most sense.
It was obvious Davis and LeBron James have hit it off and are a dominant force together on the floor. With the additions the Lakers have made this offseason, expect the team to make it at least back to the western conference finals.
With LeBron signed and now Davis signed, what a time to be alive for Lakers fans!
