Huge Blow Dealt to the Miami Heat

The Miami Heat will be in tough if they want to make their way back to the NBA Finals. The team has been chomped on by the injury bug all season and that looks like it won't be slowing down anytime soon.

The team has announced forward Meyers Leonard has undergone successful shoulder surgery and will miss the remainder of the season. The 28-year-old Leonard appeared in three games this season and last season started 49 of his 51 appearances. While his stats sheets never jump out at you, Leonard was an integral piece for the Heat's run to the finals.

Per Josh Weinstein's Report:

Leonard has been dealing with a left shoulder strain since Jan. 9, when he was forced to leave a game against the Washington Wizards because of the injury. The big man hasn't played in Miami's 12 games since then, and he's only appeared in three contests this campaign overall.

The 28-year-old finishes his season averaging 3.3 points and 2.3 rebounds in 9.7 minutes per game.

Miami is expected to apply and be granted an injured-player exception for Leonard worth $4.7 million, the South Florida Sun Sentinel's Ira Winderman reports.
