NTSB Produces Findings in Kobe Bryant's Helicopter Accident
After 12+ months, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has provided its conclusions in the helicopter crash that killed Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna as well as seven others: Christina Mauser; Payton and Sarah Chester; John, Keri and Alyssa Altobelli; and the pilot Ara Zobayan.
The NTSB determined the cause of the accident was:
Hopefully, this report can help raise safety standards in the aviation industry as well as bring closure to those that lost loved ones in the terrible tragedy.

Ara Zobayan’s decision to fly under visual flight rules in cloudy conditions, which resulted in his spatial disorientation and loss of control of the aircraft. The board added that Zobayan’s "likely" self-induced pressure to get Bryant to his destination and inadequate review of safety management procedures by helicopter operator Island Express contributed to the crash.
