Rockets GM Admits Victor Oladipo Wasn't a Good Fit in Houston

The 'James Harden' trade brought back Victor Oladipo from the Indiana Pacers and talk about a short lived era, the Houston Rockets have already moved on. Oladipo was recently flipped at the trade deadline to the Miami Heat in a trade that left many scratching their heads. Turns out Rockets general manager Rafael Stone felt Oladipo didn't match the team's long-term vision and a move had to be done.

We had kind of organizationally made a decision that the Victor fit wasn't a good one. At that point, what do you do? One of the advantages of the rebuild is there's a place for veterans, stabilizing influences, helping younger players develop in the right way. I would for sure, 100%, do that deal again. Again, you guys don't have the advantages of knowing everything I know, but literally no part of me regrets doing that deal. I have not second-guessed it for a moment.

Oladipo was long rumored to be heading to Miami in the offseason so the Rockets certainly did him a favor and likely themselves one too. The team acquired veterans Avery Bradley and Kelly Olynyk and also previously received Dante Exum in the Harden deal. The three veterans and a draft pick swap in 2022 is all the Heat have to show for James Harden.

As for Oladipo, he rejected a contract extension, he wanted out, and he got his wish to head to Florida. The NBA...a league where superstars always get their way.
