Rumor: Celtics to Trade For Magic's Nikola Vucevic
Nikola Vucevic has spent the last nine seasons with the Orlando Magic and that could soon be changing as it's being reported the Boston Celtics are aggressively pursuing the forward and talks have gained significant traction over the past couple of days.
The NBA's trade deadline is March 25th and the Celtics have a ton of money to use in facilitating a trade via the $28.5 million exception they created when Gordon Hayward headed to Charlotte.
As for Vucevic, the Celtics see him as the perfect scoring forward to add to their roster in hopes for a long playoff run in 2021. The 30-year-old is having himself a great season with the Magic as he's averaging 24.6 points per game and shooting 41.2% from three.
This move is interesting as Vucevic has term left on his contract. He's not an unrestricted free-agent until 2023, and has $46 million left on his current contract.
While the Celtics have the cap space to make a deal work it's going to come at a cost of a young asset or two along with multiple draft picks. Will Danny Ainge and the Celtics be willing to meet the Magic's price tag is the million dollar question here.
Keep an eye on these two teams as talks continue and an announcement could be made before the end of the week.
