Certain Family Members Want Zion Williamson On Another Team

There is reportedly tension between All-Star Zion Williamson and the Pelicans organization. According to sources at The Athletic, the franchise has failed to put forth an auspicious environment for both Williamson and his family.

Sources claim that the 20-year-old's family wants him to play for another team and that the dysfunction within the organization has persisted for months. One of the salient issues Williamson had was the misbegotten hiring of Stan Van Gundy, whose coaching style was effusive and overly demanding. Furthermore, the Pelicans reportedly do not treat the young phenom like the superstar that he is.

The complaints brewing out of New Orleans are confirmed by a multitude of opposing league executives.

The fraught relationship between management and player doesn't stop with Williamson, however. Brandon Ingram was also frustrated throughout the year with Van Gundy's coaching style, per sources.

The Pelicans finished the season 10 games under .500, with a record of 31-41. Moreover, they failed to procure a spot in the Play-in Tournament, losing five of their last six games.
