Dirk Nowitzki Back With the Mavericks At Mark Cuban's Special Request
With the Dallas Mavericks front office currently in 'train wreck' mode, owner Mark Cuban has leaned on a familiar friendly face to help get things back on track. Dirk Nowitzki has rejoined the team in the role of "special advisor".

Nowitzki's first assignment at the request of Mavericks owner Mark Cuban: Assisting the team in its search for a new head of basketball operations and then coach.
As pointed out by Marc Stein, the first assignment for the Mavs' legend will be to help in the search for a new head of basketball operations, after the firing of long-time GM Donnie Walsh this week.
After that, selecting a new head coach is on the docket; Rick Carlisle left the fold yesterday.
Nowitzki says Cuban asked him to take on this role, and, after his Hall of Fame 21-year-career in Dallas, he was happy to oblige:
"Mark approached me and asked me to help out and of course I said yes," Nowitzki told @NYTSports. "Any way I can help my Mavs, I'm in."

After a chaotic week for the team, this move will be a welcome relief for beleaguered Mavs fans.
