His Utah Jazz teammates got word of him winning the Defensive Player of the Year before he did, so they placed the trophy at his locker, and we all got to watch the surprise with them:

Gobert becomes the 4th player in NBA history to win the award at least three times.  He's done it all in the last 4 seasons. Gobert credits his defensive mastery to "mental toughness and dedication":

Gobert helped lead the Jazz to the top record in the NBA this season, and will continue to try to lock down the Los Angeles Clippers as the Jazz lead their 2nd round series 1-0.
