The newest version of the logo is meant to be a fresh take on the classic Logoman identity in combination with the 75th anniversary symbol - a diamond. This is the first time since the 1996-97 season that the NBA has celebrated an league-wide anniversary, as it was the 50th year of the league. In celebration, the league announced the iconic NBA's 50 Greatest Players.
While many have voiced displeasure with the logo due to its lack of a Kobe Bryant silhouette, perhaps this leaves the door open for the NBA to change their logo for the following year. Many fans, as well as players around the league would welcome the change.
