Boston Celtics Sign Marcus Smart To Extension
The Boston Celtics have signed guard Marcus Smart to a four-year, $77.1 million extension. It will begin during the 2022-23 season, as he has one year left on his current deal.
The Celtics originally took Smart with the sixth overall pick of the 2014 NBA Draft. Since then, he has blossomed into an important player for the team. Thus, there was a real necessity to sign him to a deal. In fact, it was smart of the Celtics to get this done before next off-season.Marcus Smart has agreed to a four-year, $77.1M contract extension with the Celtics, per @ShamsCharania pic.twitter.com/zdGcYmoKJp

In 48 games this season, Smart averaged 13.1 PPG to go along with 3.5 rebounds and 5.7 assists. It was an all-around strong year for the 27-year-old and he will be looking to carry over his success to next season.
He is primarily noted for his excellent defensive play, so the Celtics will surely love to have him locked up this long. He made the NBA All-Defensive First Team in 2019 and 2020, so it will not be surprising to see him do that once again.
Overall, this is a good signing for the Celtics. Smart is now expected to be a long-term part of their team.
