LA Lakers Trade Marc Gasol to Memphis Grizzlies
The Los Angeles Lakers have traded veteran center Marc Gasol to the Memphis Grizzlies. The Lakers are also sending a second-round pick in 2024 and cash to the Grizzlies in exchange for the draft rights to Wang Zhelin.
It sounds like the Griz are going to work out a release for Gasol, as the expectation is the big-man is going to stay in Spain next season with his family. This is quite the turn of events for the two clubs after Gasol spent over a decade in Memphis, named a three-time All-Star and winner of the Defensive Player of the Year in 2012-13.
If you remember all the back to 2008, the Lakers traded Gasol after drafting the versatile center to Memphis, in a package that included Marc's brother Pau. Pau of course went on to win multiple championships with the Lakers, teaming up with Kobe Bryant to form their own big-two.
As for Zhelin, he was selected 57th overall at the 2016 draft by the Grizzlies and does not appear to be on the Lakers radar any time soon.
