Minnesota Timberwolves Fire President of Basketball Operations
In an unusual move for a long-suffering franchise, the Minnesota Timberwolves fired President of Basketball Operations Gersson Rosas on Wednesday - less than two weeks prior to the start of the pre-season.
Timberwolves/Lynx owner Glen Taylor released the following statement:

“Today, the Minnesota Timberwolves parted ways with President of Basketball Operations Gersson Rosas. As an organization, we remain committed to building a winning team that our fans and city can be proud of.”
Minnesota has only made the playoffs once in the last seventeen years, has finished last in their division in nine of the last twelve seasons and has gone through seven head coaches in the same time frame. Needless to say, the decision was questioned by their franchise player Karl-Anthony Towns.

Later in the day, the Timberwolves promoted Executive Vice President Sachin Gupta to President of Basketball Operations. Sachin is a former ESPN employee created ESPN's NBA Trade Machine, and has degrees from MIT and Stanford.
The Timberwolves are promoting VP Sachin Gupta as the new head of basketball operations, sources tell me and @JonKrawczynski. Gupta becomes the first person of Indian-origin to run a basketball organization.
