Gerald Green Retires, Joins Houston Rockets Coaching Staff
High-flyer Gerald Green has retired from the NBA. The journeyman made the announcement on Friday and while he's hanging up his sneakers, he's not leaving the game as he's joining the Houston Rockets coaching staff.
Green, who was one of the best dunkers and athletes the NBA has ever seen won the NBA Slam Dunk contest in 2007 and finished second in 2008. He was a 18th overall selection of the Boston Celtics in 2005 and made is through eight organizations.
Green's stop with the Phoenix Suns may have been his best basketball of his career as he averaged 14 points across two seasons in the desert. At 35, Green will be one of the youngest coaches in the league and the Houston product will surely be missed on the highlight reels across the hard court:
