Dallas Mavericks Waive Rookie
What a rough week it has been for Eugene Omoruyi. As we previously reported, the 24-year-old will be out for the next four-to-six months because he had surgery on his right big toe. Yet, now things have gotten even worse for the rookie, as the Dallas Mavericks have opted to waive him.
Omoruyi had been a two-way player for the Mavericks, so he spent time in both the NBA and G-League. With the Mavericks, he appeared in four games, where he averaged 1.8 points, 1.8 rebounds and 0.5 assists. With the Texas Legends, he had averaged 15.8 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game.
This move may not be too surprising to see the Mavericks make, as it opens another two-way spot for them. Given the fact that COVID-19 cases are skyrocketing at this time, they need as much depth as possible. Omoruyi's long term injury took that away from them.
Alas, here's to hoping Omoruyi can find a new home for next season. He did well in the G-League, so maybe another team will be willing to sign him.
