Thomas impressed with 19 points in his first game with the Lakers, but his effectiveness trailed off in his next few games, and with some bodies coming back, the Lakers cut him loose.
Guard Brandon Knight has performed well for the Mavs since signing his own hardship contract, averaging 10 points in three games, but his positive Covid test left the team with another need for a guard off the bench.
Thomas averaged 9.3 points and 1.5 assists in his 4 games with the Lakers. The 32-year-old is a former two-time All-Star with the Boston Celtics, but injuries have derailed his career the past several years.
The Mavs will be his 6th team since 2018; he's expected to join the team for their game tonight in Sacramento.
