NBA Rumors: Jerami Grant: "Significant Deal To Be Made"

Now that the calendar's turned, and the trade deadline is a mere 5 weeks away, teams are swiftly turning their attention to improving their rosters (or whatever's left of them after health and safety protocols). One report is suggesting that the Detroit Pistons' Jerami Grant is at the top of many teams' lists. But not just any teams.

"Teams with championship aspirations are routinely calling Detroit about Grant’s services," reports The Athletic's James L. Edwards III. He says "there appears to be a significant deal to be made."

Edwards previews a number of those "championship" caliber teams' chances of landing Grant.

The Chicago Bulls, currently 1st in the Eastern Conference, have an asset that the Pistons covet. Patrick Williams, whom the Bulls selected with the No. 4 pick in the 2020 Draft, was a Pistons' draft target as well. Unfortunately, the 6'7" power forward will miss most of the season with torn wrist ligaments.

But that shouldn't scare off the Pistons. They're not going anywhere this year, and can comfortably wait for the promising 20-year-old to heal.

Edwards also thinks the Memphis Grizzlies, a team on the move in the West, make for a sensible trade partner for the Pistons. The Grizz, he surmises, would do quite well to pair Grant up on the frontline with Jaren Jackson Jr. and Steven Adams. They have a first-round pick and other young players to offer.

The Atlanta Hawks are mentioned here, as well, last year's Eastern Conference Finalists. Their status of having "championship aspirations" might be questioned by many this year, as they currently sit in 12th place in the conference. Even more reason, suggests Edwards, for them to make a significant move. He proposes sending Danilo Gallinari and Cam Reddish to the Pistons in a potential deal.

February 10th is the trade deadline; plenty more discussions for Grant and other prime trade prospects before then. Keep it here for all the rumors.
