This is rock bottom for Beal and the Wizards, who have suffered through an abysmal season after getting off to such a promising start. A 3-time All-Star, Beal was having a bit of an off-season himself, his scoring down over 8 points a game, and his 3-point shooting dipping to just 30%.
He's been suffering from a 'torn scapholunate ligament', and the original hope was that non-surgical treatment could be an option, but the decision to go under the knife was finally made today.
The 28-year-old Beal goes into the offseason with a chance to really consider his future, as he has not committed to signing a 5-year extension with the Wizards, saying "sometimes you have to be selfish."

The Wizards will have a difficult time making the playoffs without him, making a few deadline deals in the next 36 hours even more likely.
