Video: Joel Embiid Talks About Ben Simmons Trade, His Viral Tweet
The Philadelphia 76ers made a massive trade this past Thursday, acquiring former league MVP James Harden in exchange for discontented guard Ben Simmons, Seth Curry, Andre Drummond, and two first-round picks. 76ers All-Star center Joel Embiid has been teammates with Simmons for the last five seasons, and while the two seemed to get along, for the most part, you can tell that Embiid was bothered by the 6'11" point guard's decision to sit out games this season.
Shortly after the trade was announced, Embiid took to Twitter to post a photo which has become a popular "meme" rounding the internet featuring a young man wearing a suit with sunglasses which originally had a caption stating that the photo was taken at the funeral of an enemy just to make sure he was truly dead. That's a pretty morbid tweet even for the 7-foot center, who is sometimes called 'Troel Embiid' due to the nature of the content he tends to post online.
Embiid was asked about the trade and the subsequent tweet following the Sixers 100-87 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday night, and his answer was in typical Embiid fashion:
Embiid sarcastically quipped that he just tweeted out "a random person" and that he just thought he was "good looking" and "well dressed".
Joel Embiid has no issues with pouring fuel on the fire and fans will be glued to their screens when Simmons' new team the Brooklyn Nets and Philadelphia 76ers face off for the first time against each other since the trade on March 10th.
