Pistons Rookie Undergoes 2nd ACL Surgery in Two Years

It's been a devastating start to his career for Detroit Pistons forward Chris Smith. Before he's even been able to debut in the NBA, the team announced he's undergone ACL surgery.

Smith came to the Pistons on a two-year, two-way contract last summer, but was coming off an ACL tear and was unable to suit up with the big club. He played 18 games with the Motor City Cruise of the G League this year, before injuring the ACL once again earlier this month.

He was averaging 8.7 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.1 assists in about 22 minutes per game with the Cruise. The senior guard went undrafted out of UCLA in 2021.

Smith will begin rehab immediately, according to the Pistons. His status for the 2022-23 season is as yet unknown.
