Report: Luka Doncic Not Expected Back For Dallas Until Game 3

The Dallas Mavericks are facing a tough road in their opening two games of the NBA Playoffs against the Utah Jazz. An update today indicates that superstar Luka Doncic will likely be missing for both games in Dallas, as he tries to recover from the calf strain suffered in the final game of the regular season.

"There continues to be a lot of doubt around the possibility that Luka Doncic could even be available in Game 2 on Monday... We're not really looking at the possibility of Doncic until maybe Game 3 in Utah," said NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski on ESPN's NBA Countdown.

Woj noted that Luka was out on the court in flip-flops during warmup on Saturday, indicating that his chances of being out on the court during practice on Sunday seem remote. "I'm told this is more than just a mild left calf strain."

Normally, Woj says, this type of injury is usually at least a 10-12 day thing, but it's only been 6 days as they get set for Game 1 on Saturday.

Doncic's coach Jason Kidd, didn't want to hazard a guess at this point as to his star's return.

The Mavericks have been 8-9 in 17 games without Doncic this season. The rest of ESPN's NBA Countdown crew doesn't like Dallas's chances sans Luka:

"Without Luka Doncic this is close to a lottery team, if not just a flat out lottery team," said Michael Wilbon, while Stephen A. Smith added, “Without Luka the Dallas Mavericks should have no chance whatsoever of winning this series."
