Joel Embiid Undergoes Double Surgery
In addition to the concussion and broken orbital bone he suffered in the playoffs, Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid also played through most of the postseason with a torn thumb ligament. Today, he had surgery to repair that, and another issue with his other hand.
76ers’ Joel Embiid underwent surgery Monday to repair his right thumb injury, per the team, and he also had a procedure to repair an injury to his left index finger. Neither procedure is expected to impact Embiid’s availability for training camp.

Embiid was hampered by the thumb throughout much of their first-round series with the Toronto Raptors, and their Conference Semifinal against the Miami Heat. Meanwhile, his facial fracture will apparently not require surgery.
The right orbital fracture that Embiid also suffered against the Raptors has not required surgery, I'm told, which lines up with the expectation Embiid expressed at his end-of-season press conference. https://t.co/TBrjbt0K8S

The 5-time All-Star and MVP runner-up this season, Embiid should be fully healthy for training camp. He finished the season as the league's leading scorer with 30.6 points per game, along with 11.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists
