NBA Rumors: Joel Embiid Could Be About To Receive NBA MVP Award

Anytime a slew of league officials gather in one place, it raises suspicion. Thus, what will be happening in Philadelphia on Friday has many observers raising their eyebrows.

According to Justin Morris of Fox Sports, the purpose of so many NBA reps planning to be in attendance for Game 3 of the Philadelphia 76ers-Miami Heat game in Philly on Friday night, is to have a ceremony to announce and present Sixers center Joel Embiid as the winner of league MVP.

Embiid was thought to be in a neck-and-neck race with the reigning MVP, Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets.

Embiid had the best year of his 6-year NBA career, averaging 30.6 points to lead the league, to go along with 11.7 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.1 steals. He also shot 37% from three-point range.

Jokic had an incredible season as well, many say even better than his MVP year last season, by averaging 27.1 points, 13.8 rebounds, 7.9 assists and 1.5 steals.

Embiid is out for the first two games of the Sixers' second-round series with the Heat, but there's some growing confidence that he'll be available for Game 3
