Former longtime Portland Trail Blazers head coach Terry Stotts is joined by Milwaukee Bucks assistant Darvin Ham and Golden State Warriors assistant Kenny Atkinson in the final round of consideration. Ham is the only one of those three who hasn't held an NBA head coaching job in the past.
The next round of meetings will occur in-person in Los Angeles. As for Atkinson, he still has a bit of a full schedule on his hands, as he assists head coach Steve Kerr in trying to lead the Warriors back to the NBA Finals.
Three other names originally in the running for the Lakers job included former Warriors head coach Mark Jackson, Toronto Raptors assistant Adrian Griffin, and Ham's fellow assistant with the Bucks, Charles Lee.
Both Atkinson and Ham are also thought to be serious candidates for the Charlotte Hornets' head job, so they've got two cracks at winning a head coaching gig.
