The former no. 3 overall pick previously opted out of his $36.4 million player option to become an unrestricted free agent. But both Beal and the Wizards were optimistic they could get a fresh deal done once the market opened Thursday night.
Rumblings about Beal being unhappy with the losing situation in Washington have gone on for quite a while now. But it seems like the 29-year-old is more than content with staying in the nation's capital and breaking the bank with this massive contract.
Beal had an injury-riddled campaign in 2021-22, where he appeared in just 40 games before undergoing season-ending surgery on his left wrist. He finished the season with averages of 23.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 6.6 assists.
