NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the move will be effective on July 1st, and that he will continue to work under president of basketball operations Travis Schlenk.
Fields, 33, played five years in the NBA before beginning his front office career with the Spurs. He joined the Hawks as an assistant GM in 2020.

Fields retired after the 2014-15 season. As Woj reports, he started his front office career with the San Antonio Spurs, before moving to the Hawks as assistant GM two years ago.
The 33-year-old executive will be busy right off the bat, as the Hawks are expected to be one of the more active teams this offseason, already making most of their roster available for trades, with particular focus on moving John Collins.
