NBA Rumors: Raptors To Be "A Player" For Two Star Centers
Most of the league is aware that the Toronto Raptors would like to acquire an impact center. According to the word on the street, they are expected to be "a player" for two big men that would fit that bill.
Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report said on The Athletic's NBA Show podcast that "Toronto is going to potentially be a player for (Deandre) Ayton, or Rudy Gobert."
And naturally, all of that talk comes back around to the potential availability of forward OG Anunoby. Although OG has not expressed a desire to leave Toronto, nor have the Raptors expressed a desire to trade him, the rumors still persist. Mostly, Fischer has said, likely because of other teams' sensing that he'd be a piece Masai Ujiri could potentially part with in the right trade.
Fischer, in fact, had previously reported that he believes the Raptors and Utah Jazz have had conversations (with the names Gobert and Anunoby undoubtedly in the mix).
Ayton doesn't seem to be the Raptors' type of player—the extremely athletic, switchable on defense type. But he is something the team lacks: a beast inside.
This is certainly a situation we'll be keeping our eyes on as the offseason progresses.
