NBA Rumors: Top 4 Teams With Most Cap Space Heading Into Free Agency
Every year, NBA teams scramble to obtain as much cap space as they can heading into the free agency frenzy of the summer. Things are constantly changing as players are traded, and options are picked up or declined. There will be plenty of that happening over the next week, between the NBA Draft Thursday night, and the start of the free agency period July 1st.
But as of Wednesday night, there is one team that is far and away the leader in cap space, with the ability to spend far more than any other team. After its sell-off of Jerami Grant today, that team is the Detroit Pistons.
If the Pistons move off their remaining free agents, they'll have over twice as much cap space as the next closest team.

My live 2022 cap space projections:
1. DET $56M
2. ORL $27.9M
3. IND $25.6M
4. SAS $19.3M
The Pistons, as of now, have $56M in cap space if they let their remaining free agents go, according to salary cap expert Keith Smith of @spotrac. Next in line, at less than half the space of the Pistons, is the Orlando Magic, at $27.9M.
The Indiana Pacers, with $25.6M and the San Antonio Spurs, at $19.3M round out the top 4.
Again, these numbers will start to change considerably once the Draft, more trades, opt-outs/opt-ins and signings take place.
