PJ Tucker Makes Decision On Player Option

Players with options in their contracts have until the end of the month to make their decision on whether to take the sure thing for 2022-23, or test the free agent market. Miami Heat forward PJ Tucker has just made his call, declining his option and becoming a free agent. 

Miami’s PJ Tucker will opt out of his $7.4 million player option for the 2022-23 season and enter free agency, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. Several championship contending teams are expected to compete for Tucker, who was a key part of Milwaukee’s title run in 2021.

Tucker had a $7.4M option, but had already hinted in the past couple of weeks that he considers himself worth more than that. “It’s like, ‘Am I a mid-level guy?’” Tucker asked the Sun-Sentinel. 

According to NBA Insider Shams Charania, there are already several championship-contending teams that will be after Tucker. He was an integral part of the Milwaukee Bucks' championship in 2021, and was a key member of this year's Heat.

It's still expected that the Heat will make a run to keep him around.
