Pacers Clear Cap Space By Waiving Several Players

In order to execute their just-revealed max offer sheet to Deandre Ayton by midnight, the Indiana Pacers have made several moves to clear the necessary cap space.

Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Indiana has waived guard Duane Washington Jr., as well as waiving and stretching the three players who arrived from Boston in the trade for Malcolm Brogdon: Malik Fitts, Juwan Morgan and Nik Stauskas.

"Waiving and stretching" simply means that they will stretch out the remaining salary owed to those players over more years, to help further with cap space.

The 21-year-old Washington Jr. averaged 9.9 points in 20 minutes per game for the Pacers this past season.

The clock begins on the Phoenix Suns to match the Pacers' $133M offer to Ayton at midnight tonight. They'll have 48 hours to make their decision: Match it and keep Ayton at max salary, or let him go and receive nothing in return. They have until midnight to work out a sign-and-trade with Indiana if they so desire.
