Timberwolves Sign Summer League Star

After a strong performance in Summer League in Las Vegas, 6-foot-6 undrafted guard/forward A.J. Lawson has signed a two-way deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves, stolen from under the noses of the Dallas Mavericks.

Lawson really popped for the Mavs' Summer League team, scoring 15.6 points per game, along with six rebounds and 1.5 assists, while shooting at a blistering 50% from three-point range (on over five 3-pointer taken per game).

The Toronto native played for the College Park Skyhawks in the G League this past season, scoring 7.6 points with 5.5 rebounds and 1.6 steals, in about 25 minutes per game.

After the dust settled on his Summer League performance, he spoke about his dream to play in the NBA. “The goal for me is to be better than I was last year,” Lawson told SB Nation. “Be one percent better each day. That’s what I always focus on, being a better me. The goal for me is to get a deal with an NBA team. That’s always been a dream of mine since I was a kid. I always wanted to be an NBA player.”

He'll now have his chance, with T-Wolves.
