After a 14-year relationship, Russell Westbrook and his agent have parted ways, with "irreconcilable differences" about the direction Westbrook's career should take.

What it all seems to come down to is that his agent, Thad Foucher, thought that Russ's best option was to stay with the Los Angeles Lakers through the coming final year of his contract, while Westbrook apparently feels a trade elsewhere would be best. Foucher describes how they are not in "full alignment" on this:
With a possibility of a fourth trade in four years, the marketplace is telling the Lakers they must add additional value with Russell in any trade scenario. And even then, such a trade may require Russell to immediately move on from the new team via buyout.
My belief is that this type of transaction only serves to diminish Russell's value and his best option is to stay with the Lakers, embrace the starting role and support that Darvin Ham publicly offered.
The 33-year-old had a disastrous year this past season, his first with the Lakers, as the team missed the playoffs, and Westbrook became the face of that failure.
