Spurs Sign Free Agent Forward

Joining his 6th team in just four years in the NBA, 26-year-old free agent power forward Alize Johnson has a new home with the San Antonio Spurs.

Insider Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the 6'7" Johnson has signed a one year, $2M contract with the Spurs.

Johnson was a second-rounder in the 2018 NBA Draft by the Indiana Pacers. He played two seasons there, but could only manage to muster six minutes of playing time per game.

He spent 2020-21 with the Brooklyn Nets on a couple of 10-day contracts and then a regular contract. He saw a little more of the floor there, playing 10 minutes per game, and showed his potential, posting 5.2 points and 5 rebound averages. Per 36 minutes, that works out to 17.9 points and 17.1 rebounds. Nevertheless, the Nets waived him before last season.

He played a handful of games with the Chicago Bulls, Washington Wizards and New Orleans Pelicans during the 2021-22 campaign, but again, only managed to get on the floor for about 7 minutes per game.

The Spurs are fully into a rebuilding phase, so perhaps Johnson will get a chance to show his worth.
