Celtics Dealt More Terrible Injury News Ahead Of Camp

With training camp less than a week away, this is not the way the Boston Celtics wanted to head into what promised to be a championship-contention campaign. Center Robert Williams will be out for the start of the season due to more knee problems.

Williams is set to undergo an arthroscopic procedure on his left knee and is expected to be out 4-to-6 weeks. It's the same knee that knocked Williams out of a big chunk of the season down the stretch last season. He had surgery on a torn meniscus in March, but came back for Game 3 of the Celtics' first-round playoff series.

He missed a few more games as the playoffs continued, but flashed plenty of moments of his defensive presence when he did play.

Unfortunately, Williams will be grounded once again due to the knee. NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Williams is still expected to return early in the regular season.

Williams had a breakthrough season last year, averaging 10.0 points and 9.6 rebounds, with 2.0 assists and 2.2 blocked shots. He shot 73.6% from the field.

The Celtics also lost another key piece earlier in the offseason, when forward Danilo Gallinari suffered a season-ending torn ACL overseas.
