NBA Rumors: Suns, Lakers Among Teams Linked To Pistons Forward
It seemed like an odd move that surprised many when the young and rebuilding Detroit Pistons went out this past offseason and traded for 33-year-old veteran sharpshooter Bojan Bogdanovic. Then they doubled down a couple of weeks into the new season, signing the 8-year veteran to a 2-year extension worth $39M.
Now the Pistons, according to reports, are receiving a lot of interest from teams, wondering if they will shift gears and trade Bogdanovic to a contending team in need of a bucket-getter.
Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports says it's all about the Dec. 15th trade window that's fast approaching; a date that makes Bogdanovic eligible to be dealt.
I do know Detroit is getting calls on him just like any team (when) we’re getting close to the Dec. 15 area where a lot of players who signed (in free agency last summer) are going to be eligible (to be traded). That’s kind of the unofficial start of the trade window. But also he’s playing really well for this team right now.
Indeed, Bogdanovic is off to a great start, averaging 20.3 points while shooting a sizzling 43% from 3-point land.
But the fact remains, the Pistons are 3-11, and the 33-year-old is in a starting lineup with Cade Cunningham, 21, Jaden Ivey, 20, Saddiq Bey, 23, and Isaiah Stewart, 21. He just doesn't fit their timeline for contention.
“He’s a player that I think a lot of winning teams, a team looking to get to the second round that’s never gotten there or a team that wants to push their way to really be a title threat (would want)," added Fischer.
He goes on to mention two teams (one a 'winning team', the other not so much), the Phoenix Suns and the Los Angeles Lakers, that are prime suitors, among others.
"Phoenix was at the top of everyone’s list in terms of suitors that have capital to pay in addition to talent and the salaries that made sense… The Lakers were (also) obviously involved."
It's certainly possible that a team looking for a floor-spacer will come along and make an offer that the Pistons can't refuse.
