"We Just Play Soft, Man": Timberwolves' Star Rips Team After Slow Start

After losing 4 of their last 5 games to go to 5-6 on the season, it’s safe to say the Minnesota Timberwolves aren’t firing on all cylinders after an exciting offseason that was supposed to lift them into contender territory. With their ‘Big 3’ of Karl-Anthony Towns, Anthony Edwards, and newly acquired Rudy Gobert, the T-Wolves were hoping to make a deep run in the Western Conference this year.

That hasn’t happened though; inconsistency and chemistry issues have brought up concerns over Gobert’s fit on the roster, as the Wolves have failed to get any sort of momentum their way. And after an noncompetitive 120-107 loss to the New York Knicks, players are starting to vent their frustrations. Last night it was the young star Edwards throwing some shade at his teammates in the media scrum, offering the following quote:

“I feel like we try to bring energy. We just play soft, man. Like, every bump, we flying all over the place, including myself. Teams just coming in like, ‘We’re going to take their heart,’ and that’s what’s going on. We’re down 20 every game."

Fans on social media have been quick to point out that Edwards isn’t blameless in the team’s struggles. Earlier this season, Towns called out ANT for joking about his poor diet, which Towns saw as a hindrance to his work as a professional athlete. Edward’s commitment has been called into question at times, too, with a tendency to space out and lose interest in the game leading to rollercoaster stat lines from night to night.

The Wolves will have a night off to try to straighten themselves out, before facing the 2nd place Phoenix Suns tomorrow evening.
