NBA Rumors: Celtics Guard Drawing Trade Interest

The Boston Celtics continue to roll along at the top of the NBA's standings. Back on a 3-game win streak, they're at 25-10. But one player who hasn't had much run to this point this season is reserve guard Payton Pritchard. He's received 5 DNPs in the last 13 games he's been dressed.

It seems that other teams have noticed, and are making calls to see if he's available. According to Steve Bulpett of Heavy.com, "not surprisingly, Pritchard’s new situation has other teams sniffing around. Clubs have been investigating whether he might be worth pursuing in a trade."

The 6'1" guard makes $2.2M this season and $4M next year. He's shown flashes of dynamic offensive skills in the past, but his size could give teams pause to worry. One NBA team's personnel man said, "You’ve got to wonder about him defensively at that size (listed at 6-1), but he plays hard, he can really push the ball and he’s got a nice stroke from 3.

"I like what I see, but it’s hard to say for sure if he could do more with a better opportunity. And first you have to ask if he’s better than what you have and if he’ll even get more of a look with your team. It’s hard to say, but I know I’m not the only team checking on him."

There's one report that Pritchard would welcome a trade to somewhere he'd get a chance to play some significant minutes.

Averaging just 4.4 points per game this season, he's now out with a thigh injury. But his situation is certainly worth monitoring.
