Smith spent time as a two-way player for the Miami Heat earlier this season. The 6-foot-3 guard appeared in five games and played at least 15 minutes in three of those games.
He played eight games for the Heat's G-League affiliate, Sioux Falls Skyforce and tallied averages of 18.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 6.9 assists, and 2.1 steals.
Smith played four years of college ball, the first two with Evansville and the latter with Missouri. He led the SEC in total steals in his third year and in steals per game in his junior and senior years.
The Nets are currently one of the hottest teams in the league, having won 18 of their last 21 games. However, they will be without superstar forward Kevin Durant as the former league MVP recently suffered and is projected to miss a month with the injury.
