San Antonio Spurs Breakout Star To Undergo Surgery

He's one of the NBA's leading candidates for Most Improved Player this season, but a knee injury has kept him out of the lineup for three of the last four games. Now, Devin Vassell will go under the knife.

The Spurs announced that Vassell will have arthroscopic knee surgery performed next Wednesday. For now, there is no timetable for his return.

Vassell has broken out this year for the Spurs, increasing his scoring from 12.3 points a game last season to 19.4 currently. He's also added 4.0 rebounds, 3.6 assists and an elite 40.4% shooting from long-range.

Romeo Langford and Malaki Branham should see an increase in minutes while Vassell is out.

San Antonio, at 12-26, currently owns the 4th worst record in the NBA, giving them as good a chance at winning the Draft Lottery (a.k.a. the Victor Wembanyama Sweepstakes) as any of the other cellar dwellers below them. The bottom four teams have an equal shot.
