They don't have clarity yet on where Durant stands at the moment after the Kyrie Irving trade. Obviously, they're trying to make deals and they need to know, is Durant in with us now or is he out? If he's here, they say, 'alright, we're going to go hard after Pascal Siakam', let's say, but if he's out, they pivot in a totally different direction.
I think the whole league is waiting to hear what Durant's decided.
ESPN's Brian Windhorst adds today that the Nets' position on whether they would go ahead and trade Durant "may change" from their previous resistant stance.

"Now that Kyrie has been traded, maybe the Nets' position on not trading Durant as it really was kind of last summer may change," said Windhorst. "That is an interesting development that has happened over the last 48 hours since the Kyrie trade from people that I've talked to."
It appears that we're in for a very interesting final 24 hours leading up to Thursday's trade deadline at 3:00pm Eastern. And a lot of it may hinge on what Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets, in turn, decide to do.
