Washington Wizards Sign Shot-Blocking Center

When you're averaging 3 ½ blocks per game, you get noticed. The Washington Wizards have added some serious rim protection to the roster, signing 24-year-old center Jay Huff.

It's a two-way contract for the 7'1" Huff, who was playing with the Los Angeles Lakers' South Bay affiliate in the G League.

Huff has put up some attention-grabbing stats this season, averaging 14.3 points, 7.9 rebounds, and a resounding 3.6 blocks per game in 19 G League regular season games. He's also shooting 40% from three-point range.  And in 18 Showcase Cup games earlier in the season, he put up 16.3 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 3.2 blocks. All of this in well under 30 minutes per game.

Huff went undrafted out of Virginia in 2021. The Wizards originally signed him to an Exhibit 10 deal for training camp that year, but eventually waived him, and he latched on with the Lakers on a two-way deal, until they too, parted ways with him. The Wizards, however, have kept him on their radar, and they've finally given him an NBA deal.
