NBA Rumors: Philadelphia 76ers Star To Sign Max Extension This Summer

Joel Embiid already has his supermax extension, but now the Philadelphia 76ers are ready to sign one of his main sidekicks to a max deal to keep him in Philly for the long-term.

According to Sean Deveney of Heavy Sports, "multiple NBA execs (say that) guard Tyrese Maxey will likely get a max rookie contract extension this offseason."

“They have a lot of big contracts they’re dealing with obviously,” said one NBA GM. “But they’re going to have to make him another one. He’s a max guy.”

Another Eastern Conference executive said, "Look at what the guy has done. He’s gotten better at every turn, his work ethic is really, really amazing from everyone around him. That’s what stands out. This guy is only getting better. Probably, there’s no negotiation, they’re going to have to max him out.”

In just his third season, as the third option behind Embiid and James Harden, the 23-year-old Maxey has emerged as a star in his own right, averaging a career-high 20.3 points with 3.5 assists and 2.9 rebounds, while shooting a sizzling 43.4% from three-point range.

Only a fractured left foot was able to hold Maxey back this season, as he missed 20 games back in November/December.
