NBA Rumors: 3 Potential Landing Spots For Fred VanVleet

Fred VanVleet and the Toronto Raptors will be forever intertwined, as the bulldog guard was a key component of the team's first-ever NBA championship in 2019. But VanVleet has the chance to enter free agency for the first time, and with it, score a huge bag. He has a $22.8M player option for next season which he is thought certain to decline.

If the Raptors aren't able to keep their heart and soul around, here are the three most plausible destinations for Mr. Bet On Yourself.

Philadelphia 76ers

The Philadelphia 76ers have jumped to the top of this list since we last checked in on VanVleet's potential landing spots.

The word out of Philly is that they've got their eyes on Fred as a star replacement in the backcourt if James Harden takes his talents elsewhere this summer. And with the emergence of Nick Nurse as the new coach, a reunion with VanVleet in Philly certainly makes a ton of sense.

Los Angeles Lakers

No, the Lakers will not be pursuing Kyrie Irving this summer, despite all the rumors to the contrary. But another star point guard is definitely on their radar. Reports surfaced recently that the Purple and Gold would like to pursue a double sign-and-trade with the Raptors for VanVleet and D'Angelo Russell.

FVV brings the defense that Russell does not, in addition to being able to play the one or the two, depending on when/if LeBron has the ball in his hands.

Orlando Magic

This is the name that simply won't go away. The Magic have a boatload of cap space and are expected to throw a ton of money at the veteran leader to come in and mentor the young team. At 29, Fred wouldn't be too far out of the timeline for the talented young Magic roster.

VanVleet averaged 19.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists this season, and was once again near the top of the leaderboard in steals and deflections.
