NBA Rumors: Mavericks Linked to Free Agent Guard

The Dallas Mavericks are still working on filling in some holes on their roster this summer, and the latest report has them linked to free agent former Minnesota Timberwolves guard Jaylen Nowell.

“No, he’s not coming back to the Wolves,” Timberwolves insider Darren Wolfson said of Nowell. “There’s a mutual understanding that, ‘Hey, time for Jaylen to move on.’"

And the Mavericks are apparently ready to move in on the four-year veteran shooting guard.

But how soon it will happen remains to be seen, as Wolfson added that "the Nowell camp is still also awaiting finality on the Damian Lillard situation.” And we're becoming acutely aware that that situation might not be settled for some time

The 24-year-old Nowell was selected in the second round by the T-Wolves in the 2019 NBA Draft, and has spent all four of his seasons in the Twin Cities. Last year was his career-best, averaging 10.8 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.0 assists. His three-point shooting, however, took a big dip from the previous season, dropping from 39% to just 29% last year.

The Mavericks have already added Seth Curry to their backcourt this offseason, and recently added a former No. 5 overall pick as well.

It remains to be seen if Nowell will be added to the guard mix in Big D.
