Free Agent JaVale McGee Has Suitor In Western Conference Contender

After being cut loose by the Dallas Mavericks this past week with two years remaining on his contract, three-time NBA champion JaVale McGee is looking for a new home. And according to insider Chris Haynes, the Sacramento Kings are showing interest.

The Kings would want to wait until McGee clears waivers, as he still has a $5.7M cap hit on his existing contract for each of the next two seasons. If no one claims him, the Mavs would have to deal with the rest of that contract, while a team like Sacramento could sign him to a minimum deal.

The Kings already have an All-Star starting center of course, in Domantas Sabonis, but McGee has offered quality backup minutes in the middle as a rim protector for two Golden State Warriors championship teams, as well as the Los Angeles Lakers 2020 title winners.

Sacramento took a huge step towards getting to that level last season, becoming a real factor in the West. If they were to sign him, they would be hoping that McGee's postseason experience could be a help to the playoff newbies.

On the Kings, he would be battling for backup minutes at the five along with Alex Len, Nerlens Noel and Neemias Queta.
