2 Players The New York Knicks Could Trade This Season

The New York Knicks aren't finished building just yet. They're still looking for that all-out superstar, top-10 player type of thing, to push them into championship contention.

And to that end, they're keeping an eye out on the futures of the likes of Joel Embiid, Donovan Mitchell and other big names in the next year or so. The Knicks will still need to execute some trades this season to get to where they want to go.

A look now at two players that could be dealt — one of them likely sooner than later.

RJ Barrett

The 23-year-old young star is in the midst of an inspiring run helping Team Canada to the semi-finals in the FIBA World Cup. But his four-year, $107 million extension with the Knicks will be kicking in this season. If New York is going to bring in a big-money star, the trade return will almost certainly have to begin with Barrett and his $26.75M salary.

The former No. 3 overall pick in the 2019 Draft finished last year with his second straight season hovering right around the 20 PPG mark (19.6), but his long range shooting to a significant dip for the third straight year (to 31%).

Evan Fournier

The biggest surprise here is that he hasn't been traded yet. The 11-year veteran wing was none too pleased with being a dead weight on the end of the Knicks bench for practically the entirety of last season, and has been angling for a trade all summer.  His $18.9M owed this season will also be nice salary-filler in any trade for a big name.
