2 Players The Toronto Raptors Could Trade This Season

The Toronto Raptors were all the rage at last season's trade deadline in February, and were again around the Draft period in June. Things have quieted down this summer, but without a doubt, the trade talk and rumors will be picking up again in short order.

Pretty much anyone not named Scottie Barnes could be dealt this season, though we'll focus right now on two players who are more in the "likely" to be traded  category.

Pascal Siakam

Where there's smoke, there's fire. That's the old axiom, and it seems pretty relevant here. Siakam is entering the final year of his contract, at $37.9M, and there have been no substantive extension talks. But what there has been, it seems, are trade talks. The Atlanta Hawks, for one, have been mentioned as prime suitors.

If the team is still wallowing around the Play-In level as we get closer to the 2024 trade deadline, the Raptors will surely explore the best deal they can get for Siakam, as they desperately need to avoid a repeat of the Fred VanVleet fiasco, which saw them hang on to their star point guard heading into free agency this summer, only to lose him for nothing.

Thad Young

Sure, there are many others we could have included here, like OG Anunoby and Gary Trent Jr.  But it seems like Toronto really wants to keep both players, who are younger and closer to Barnes' timeline than Siakam.

Young can still be a quality veteran leader for any team off the bench in limited minutes. And what's more, his $8M expiring contract can be quite useful as salary-filler in a trade. Expect to see the well-liked vet moving on this year.
