Former 1st-Round Pick Requests Trade From Hornets

He's already indefinitely away from the Charlotte Hornets, not reporting to camp. And he raised a stir last month with a series of bizarre tweets. Now, after two very uneventful seasons in the NBA, Kai Jones has asked for a trade out of Charlotte. And he announced it himself on social media:

It's quite likely that most Hornets fans' reaction is, "Buh bye", after seeing the strange activity that Jones has been demonstrating of late, plus his inability to crack the rotation.

A former first-round pick (No. 19 overall in the 2021 Draft by the New York Knicks), the 22-year-old has failed to live up to expectations since coming to Charlotte, averaging just 2.7 points, 2.0 rebounds and 0.3 assists in 9 minutes a night through 67 games with Charlotte over two seasons.

Here's an example of his bizarre posts:

That was followed by this exchange, in which Jones says he's taking LeBron in a one-on-one:

The Hornets have already exercised their $3.05M option on Jones for the coming season, so any trade would come with that salary.

The eventuality of moving on from the 6'11" Jones is probably a foregone conclusion for the Bugs, anyway, as second-year man Mark Williams has taken hold firmly of the starting center spot, and 7-footer Nick Richards fared very well as the backup at the five last season. Jones is really without a role to playing time with the Hornets.
