According to NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski, “I'm told that there has been absolutely no progress on a Klay Thompson extension in Golden State. They are both still apart on years and money, and there's a very real possibility that Klay Thompson goes into free agency next summer without a deal.”
"It's something of a high-wire act (for the Warriors), especially if Thompson duplicates this year the kind of season he had last year... he led the league with 301 threes, and had his best points per game (22 ppg) in several years.
"You know in the marketplace teams value shooting and they value high-level wing defense," continued Wojnarowski. "So for Golden State, this becomes the first real test of keeping together that core of Steph Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson."
Former Warriors boss Bob Myers was on the ESPN panel with Woj, and had this to say:
"A lot of times people will say 'this is just business'. But this is not just a business situation... There's going to be a statue outside Chase Center for this player. He was instrumental in bringing them four championships.
"This is why it was hard for me. You build relationships with people... This is a delicate situation. From what I've seen, he wants to stay, and they want him to stay. But it doesn't mean it'll happen."
Thompson will be 34 this season. In his 10 seasons, he has a career mark of 19.8 points per game, 4.1 rebounds, and 41.6% shooting from three, along with his tremendous defense.
