Atlanta Hawks Waive Former NBA Champion

He's got an NBA championship on his resume, and as a 15-year veteran guard has been a consistent three-point sniper, shooting it from long range at a 39% clip. But now, Patty Mills is a free agent after being waived by the Atlanta Hawks.

Mills, who came over to the Hawks from the Brooklyn Nets before the season, has only been given very limited action in Atlanta, playing only 19 games and averaging just over 10 minutes per contest. He's averaging just 2.7 points but he's still shooting over 38% from beyond the arc.

Now 35, Mills won a title with the 2013–14 San Antonio Spurs. He was a valuable contributor off the bench during that playoff run, hitting threes at a better than 40% clip.

According to NBA Insider Shams Charania, the Hawks will use the open roster spot to convert two-way guard Trent Forrest on a standard NBA contract.

In his 14 years in the NBA, for the Spurs, Nets, Hawks and the Portland Trail Blazers, Mills has averaged 8.9 points and 2.2 assists in about 20 minutes per game.
